Candidates summoned to the meeting included Geoffrey Kayemba Ssolo of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Bashir Ssemakula of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and independent candidate Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji, all vying for the Bukomansimbi South seat.

Also present were Muhammad Kateregga of JEEMA and Salim Kiseka of the NRM, who are contesting for Bukomansimbi North.

During the engagement, Electoral Commission officials cautioned the candidates against participating in or condoning violence, stressing that peaceful campaigning is a legal requirement and a key pillar of free and fair elections.

The candidates were urged to rein in their supporters and to address political differences through lawful and non-violent means.

In response, the candidates committed themselves to observing electoral guidelines and promoting peace throughout the remainder of the campaign period.

They assured the Commission that they would discourage acts of violence and ensure their supporters conduct themselves responsibly.

The Electoral Commission further warned that candidates found in violation of electoral laws risk sanctions, including possible disqualification, in line with the existing electoral framework.

Local leaders and residents welcomed the Commission’s intervention, saying the clashes had created fear within communities and threatened to disrupt campaign activities.

They expressed hope that the commitments made by the candidates would help restore calm and allow voters to participate freely in the electoral process.

The Electoral Commission said it will continue monitoring political activities in Bukomansimbi District and engaging stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
